Women’s health
Acumend understands the stresses that may affect female health, including work, family or societal pressures. Alongside external clinical care, we work closely with you to understand detailed individual medical histories.
Let’s get to the root causes of your symptoms.

Menopause
Menopause is a natural part of most women’s lives. It signals the permanent completion of menstruation (periods) and the end of a woman’s ability to reproduce.
Menopause commonly occurs between the ages of 48 to 55 years and the transition usually lasts between 6 and 12 months.
Many women experience very mild or no symptoms at all during this time, while others experience a range of symptoms, including but not limited to:
- Hot flushes or redness cheeks day and/or night
- Excessive sweating
- Insomnia and dream-disturbed sleep
- Thirst and dry mouth
- Frequent urination during day or night
- Anxiety, restlessness, irritability, depression
- Swollen lower legs, ankles, feet
- Tiredness and headaches
- Lower backache
- Constipation

Period pain
While it is common to experience some aches or discomfort during menstruation, the pain should not be disrupting or debilitating.
Acumend offers treatment programs and support to assist with promoting a healthy regular menstrual cycle with a reduction of symptoms.
Period pain can be caused by certain reproductive disorders, such as endometriosis or fibroids. Endometriosis is the most common cause of secondary dysmenorrhoea.
In primary dysmenorrhoea, it is thought that the muscles of the uterus (womb) squeeze and contract harder than normal to dislodge the thickened lining (endometrium), causing pain. Both can be debilitating, impacting a menstruating women’s quality of life.
Two types of pain are commonly associated with periods — primary and secondary. Primary pain causes common symptoms such as cramping caused by no underlying condition. Secondary pain is caused by underlying conditions such as PCOS, endometriosis or pelvic inflammatory disease which can cause an array of symptoms, including cramps, pain, inflammation, tiredness, and nausea.
Acumend gains an understanding of what is required in your initial appointment to determine a management plan to promote a healthier menstrual cycle.
Note: If you are experiencing severe period pains, it is important that you advise your GP as this may signal a serious medical problem.
